Everyone’s smile is unique to them and because of this there are a number of techniques that we use here at Southport Road Dental so that your dream smile can be achieved.
Below are some of the processes that we use to help you get the smile that you have always wanted.
“David explains the different types of straightening systems”
The Inman Aligner
Inman Aligners are braces that can straighten or move your teeth to the desired position. The Aligners are most commonly used to straighten the front upper and lower teeth.
After a consultation, we will be able to determine if you are suitable for treatment with the Inman Aligner.
How does it work?
The Inman Aligner is a removable appliance which uses force created by a coiled spring over time. These springs are sat on the inside of your teeth and push your teeth against a bar that sits in front of your teeth to get them into position.
How long does treatment take?
You will get results with the Inman Aligner in 6 to 16 weeks. How quickly you see the results will largely depend on how long you wear the Aligner for each day.
The longer that you wear it the more quickly that you will get the straight smile that you want. We recommend that you wear your Aligner for around 20 hours per day.
Will it be uncomfortable?
As with anything new it will take some getting used to and to begin with it may affect your speech but after a week or so you should be used to it being there.
What are the advantages of the Inman Aligner system?
There are many advantages to using an Inman Aligner to straighten your smile, here are a few:
- A much shorter treatment time compared to other invisible braces.
- The Aligner is removable so you can still eat and take care of your teeth normally.
- Only one Aligner is needed for the entire treatment.
6 Month Smiles
Have you considered teeth straightening treatment but been put off by the prospect of wearing braces or aligners every day for up to three years?
Now there is an answer if you want a quick fix for your crooked smile – the revolutionary 6-Month Smiles treatment.
We use 6-Month Smiles to treat:
- Crowding of your teeth
- Gaps in your smile
- Overbites (your upper teeth sit too far in front of your lower teeth)
- Underbites (where the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth)
- Front teeth that prominently stick out
- Crossbites (your teeth bite on the wrong side of each other)
- Openbite (where teeth don’t meet when you bite)
- Realigning the midline so that the centre lines of your upper and lower teeth match
Some of the main benefits of the 6-Month Smiles are:
- The wires are small and tooth coloured
- Treatment time is reduced by up to 75%.
- Teeth are gently repositioned so there is minimal discomfort.
What does the treatment involve?
During your first visit, as with any treatment here at Southport Road Dental, a full assessment of your mouth will take place to ensure that it is healthy.
We will also examine your smile and take some photographs and X-rays. You will also be told whether the 6-Month Smiles treatment is suitable for you and the likely treatment time and costs involved.
After this, your special 6-Month Smiles braces will be fitted. These are small, white brackets, and special wires that come directly from the 6-Month Smiles laboratory in the United States.
After this, we ask you to come in every 4-5 weeks for short 10-15 minute appointments for regular adjustments of your braces until the end of your treatment. We can continue to monitor your progress and it gives you an opportunity to ask any further questions that you have.
how do I know it will work for me?
Six-Month smiles are relatively new to the UK but have been being used in the United States since 2006 and hundreds of people have been amazed at what they can do.
Six-Month Smiles can be the perfect solution for getting your teeth picture perfect for a special occasion like weddings.
How is it possible for teeth to be straightened in 6 months?
Six-Month Smiles uses the newest techniques and recent technological advancements in dentistry so that your teeth can be moved both quickly and safely. This is achieved by the special nickel titanium wires that are used.
Will 6-Month Smiles wires show like train-track braces?
The Six-Month Smile system uses small, tooth coloured braces and because of the special nickel titanium wires that are used it means that they would only be visible if you were to look at them from a very short distance.
Although wires are used they are not like train-track braces, they are a little more visible than some invisible braces but they work in a fraction of the time.
Will this treatment hurt?
The same as any new appliance in your mouth you will have an adjustment period of about a week. Your speech may be affected a little during this time too but should return to normal fairly quickly.
The Six-Month smile system uses low force so that your teeth move more gently; they are far more comfortable than traditional braces and in there for far less time!
Will I have to wear a retainer after treatment?
Any treatment where teeth have been moves needs retention afterwards to reduce the risk of them moving back. Your teeth have a tendency to move back to their natural position and a retainer will prevent this.
You can get a night-time removable retainer to wear, or you can be fitted with a permanent bonded retainer on the back surfaces of your teeth.
