What happens at your first visit

The 7 Step consultation. Forty-five minutes, nothing rushed.

Most first appointments at a dentist are ten minutes and a lecture. Ours isn't. It's the full picture of your teeth, gums and mouth, with a dentist, and a plan you take home — whether or not you need anything doing.

A dentist and dental nurse treating a patient in the surgery
  1. A conversation first

What you'd like from your teeth, and anything that worries you about being here. If you're nervous we'll run through our fear survey so we know exactly what to avoid.

  2. Full examination of teeth and gums

Every tooth, every filling, and a gum health score — gum disease is the thing most people don't know they have.

  3. Mouth cancer screening

A quick check of the soft tissues, lips, tongue and throat. Early detection changes outcomes.

  4. X-rays where needed

Digital, low-dose, on screen straight away — so you see what we see.

  5. Photographs of your smile

A record to compare against, and the easiest way to explain what's going on.

  6. Your options, explained plainly

What needs doing now, what can wait, and what's purely optional. In plain English, on screen.

  7. A written plan, with every fee

You leave with it. Nothing on it will surprise you against our published fee list, and there's no obligation to book any of it.

You're in the right place if

Most new patients here arrive with one of these.

“I'm terrified of the dentist.”

You're not alone — helping phobic patients is what David and Rashmi are known for. They wrote a book on it. Nothing happens until you say so, and you can stop us at any time.

“It's been years. I'm embarrassed.”

We hear this every week, and no one here will judge you for it. We'll look, tell you where things stand, and start from there — not from where you think you should be.

Pain-free* is the method, not the slogan

Two Certified Pain Free Dentists who wrote the book on dental fear.

Over ten years David and Rashmi have refined a way of working built for people who dread the chair: computerised injections you barely feel, warmed anaesthetic so there's no sting, the Waterlase laser for gentler treatment, and sedation for anyone who needs it. Then they ask every patient how it felt — 98.6% of 168 surveyed said pain-free.

  • We'll never start until every question is answered.
  • You can raise a hand and we stop. Every time.
  • Everything is explained before it happens.
  • Free chapters of the book, before you even book.

Certified Pain Free Dentist David Hickey and Rashmi Chattopadhyay are Certified Pain Free Dentists. Verification available on request.

If you would rather not think about it

Everything your teeth need in a year, for £39.03 a month.

A maintenance plan turns dentistry from a series of bills into a direct debit. Your check-ups and your hygiene visits for the year are already paid for, so a routine appointment never arrives as a cost — which, for most people who have been avoiding the dentist, is half of what was putting them off.

  • Routine visits, already paid for

2 examinations and 4 hygiene appointments a year are included — £69.50 and £90 each if you pay as you go. You book them, you come in, there is nothing to settle.

  • 10% off if you do need something doing

This is usually where a plan pays for itself. The 10% comes off routine dental treatment — every filling, root canal and crown, for as long as you are on it. It does not apply to orthodontic treatment, cosmetic treatment or implant treatment.

  • Covered when you are nowhere near Chorley

Patients on a plan administered by Practice Plan can also request help through the Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance Scheme, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The plan with the most in it

£39.03 a month

  • 2 examinations a year
  • 4 hygiene appointments a year
  • 10% off routine dental treatment
  • Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance Scheme
  • No joining fee

Those appointments come to £499 a year paying as you go. The plan saves you £30.64 — and then takes 10% off anything else you need.

Three smaller plans from £12.83 a month — your dentist recommends the one that fits how often you need to be seen.

Administered by Practice Plan. To join you need to be dentally fit and up to date with any treatment you need, and to join within a month of finishing it — so for most people a plan is something to decide after the first visit, not before it. Nobody has to join anything to be a patient here.

Before you book

The questions new patients actually ask.

Do I have to register or pay a joining fee?

No. Book a 7 Step consultation and you're a patient of the practice. There is no registration fee.

Will I get a telling-off?

No. Whatever state your teeth are in, we've seen worse, and we'd rather you were here than not. We'll be honest about what we find, kindly.

Is the £99 the whole cost?

For the consultation, yes — £99 covers the whole 45 minutes, against a standard fee of £155. Any treatment you need afterwards is quoted separately, in writing, and there is no obligation to go ahead with it.

Can I have a hygiene visit without seeing a dentist?

Yes — a direct access hygiene appointment with our dental therapist is £145, no examination or referral needed.

I work full-time. When can I come?

We're open until 8.00pm on Monday & Wednesday, so most people manage an evening appointment without time off.

What if I'm in pain right now?

Don't wait for a consultation — call us for a same-day emergency appointment (£245) and we'll get you out of pain first.
